Well, with the exception of some birthdays at the beginning of the month and the Newman family's Fall break trip, I guess no one else did anything this month! Every day I check to see what's going on in the family and I'm welcomed with the same headline as the day before. Now you people either need to get a life or at least tell us about the one you have. I know it can't possibly be that boring! Since I've been negligent too, I will tell you what I've been up to because it is REALLY exciting. ha
John and I drove up to College Station Friday afternoon to take Kyle some cold weather fishing gear for his tournament on Saturday. I think it was going to get down to 50 degrees or something. You probably guessed that we were just looking for any excuse to go for a visit. Kyle wanted us to come though, because John got him a fishing sponsorship with a rod manufacturer and we had 3 new rods to add to his collection. Anyway, John and Kyle had fun rigging up his rods and I mostly sat in the one chair I deemed to be the cleanest. Usually I clean or do laundry but the need was just too overwhelming and it was just too late in the day - so I opted to do nothing.
On Saturday, I peeled 15 pounds of sweet potatoes, prepared and cooked them, then put them in the freezer for a dinner party for 40 people I am having on Nov. 9. Yes, I do plan to serve something other than potatoes but I'll work on that later. The problem is that John and I will be gone from Nov. 4-7 to the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. I'm sure that as much as you retirees get around you must know all about it. You see the problem is that I will have only 1 day to prepare for the party when I get back, thus the mad rush to get everything accomplished before I leave. The dinner is for my ladies group, PEO, only this time the husbands are invited. This happens only once a year so I will do my best to make it nice. If more than 40 people sign up, and I'll know on Tuesday, I'm in big trouble. Also, if it rains I'm in big trouble. So keep me in your prayers on that weekend!
On Tuesday I begin mentoring two 5th grade students. I'm not exactly sure of their specific needs yet but since they were recommended by their teachers and since there are only enough volunteers for 15 students in the entire school, I can only assume that they are major. I don't have any special training for this but at least I can give them attention and encouragment. Unfortunately, most of the encouragement I have to offer is based on my faith in God and I can't mention it. Too bad I'm not Muslim, I could probably get away with that. Hopefully, I can encourage them to ask me questions about me because I can answer those honestly.
I've been cooking a lot today, eating some now and putting some in the freezer for another day when I won't have time to cook. I am very busy at work and wonder how on earth I'm going to manage working only one day next week when we go away. One thing I can be sure of is that all my work will be waiting for me when I get back!
Well, is that exciting enough for this blog? Sorry I don't have any pictures to send. I've had Lauren snapping a lot lately but they are all too ugly to post. Let's hear from the rest of you!
