The Election

Dorothy called this morning to ask me to post these two scriptures on the blog, Psalm 2 and Daniel 10, as a call to prayer before the election. Amazingly, I had just finished reading Psalm 2 and thought what a timely passage it is as we are being confronted by a world political and economic system that is in direct opposition to the Christian principles this country was founded on.

Comments on Psalm 2
God laughs, not at the nations, but at their confused thoughts about power. God is all-powerful. He created the world, and knew about the empires of the earth long before they came into being. But pride and power cause nations and leaders to rebel against God and try to break free of him. Our world has many leaders who boast of their power, who rant and rave against God and his people, who promise to take over and form their own empires. God God laughs because any power they have comes from him, and he can also take it from them. We need not fear the boasts of tyrants - they are in God's hands.

Comments on Daniel 10
Although God sent a messenger to Daniel, a powerful spiritual being (prince of the Persian kingdom- Iran) detained the messenger for three weeks. Daniel faithfully continued praying and fasting, and God's messenger eventually arrived, assisted by Michael, the archangel. Answers to our prayers may be hindered by unseen obstacles. God's answers may not come too easily or too quickly.

Although God is always in control, prayer may be challenged by evil forces, so pray fervently and earnestly. It would be great if the Greenville group could pray as a group. There's no question that this is the most important election of our lifetime and a clear sign of what lies ahead for us, our children and our grandchildren.
